However, staying safe within your home is a huge priority and we are here to help give advice and guidance on the best course of action to provide a safe environment in your own home.
Entering the property, ensure that pathways & gates are clear of trip hazards or loose debris. There are no plants that disrupt the walking path to the front door as these can also cause trips and falls if they become overgrown. Ensure that the path is free of algae or moss build up as these can become slippery when wet. A good brush with a hard bristle broom should clear most of this off.
Make sure that throughout the house there are no objects laying around on the floor or in precarious places. If you have a staircase, ensuring there are no tripping hazards can hugely reduce the risk of a trip or fall. Making sure that kitchens are tidied, and any sharp cutlery or heavy pots and pans are correctly stored away after use. If cooking is taking place, do not leave it unattended, as this can become out of control very quickly.
Within the bathrooms, having an anti-slip bathmat and grab handrails securely fitted to the walls can avoid any unnecessary slips on the wet flooring or precariously getting in and out of the washing facilitates.
Getting in and out of bed can also pose risks. Maybe you are over tired or over worked, meaning that your sense may be skewed. The application of again handrails or bed rails on the side of the bed to avoid any accidents during the night. Ensure that throughout the house rugs or mats are stable and do not have any curled edges, even better roll them up and store them off to the side out of the way.
